About the exhibition:

Nikkei, the Financial Times, and Peter Fetterman Gallery proudly present Japan / A Love Story, a landmark exhibition showcasing the evocative black-and-white photography of internationally acclaimed artist Michael Kenna. Opening at H Queen’s on April 25, 2025, this will be Kenna’s largest-ever showcase in Hong Kong, featuring over 100 hand-crafted silver gelatin prints, each reflecting his profound artistic dialogue with Japan’s landscapes, traditions, and culture.

A Journey Through Japan’s Timeless Beauty: For nearly four decades, Japan has been at the heart of Michael Kenna’s photographic journey, shaping his aesthetic, philosophy, and approach to image-making. Kenna’s meticulous approach—
long exposures, minimalist compositions, and traditional darkroom printing— transforms fleeting moments into lasting impressions. His work captures nature’s rhythms with remarkable sensitivity, inviting viewers to slow down, observe, and connect. In an age of digital excess and relentless speed, ‘Japan: A Love Story’ offers a rare space for reflection and a deeper engagement with the world around us.

A Global Sensation Comes to Hong Kong: Debuting in Tokyo in 2024, Japan
/ A Love Story drew 15,000 visitors in just three weeks before traveling to Los Angeles and London. Now, Hong Kong audiences will have the rare opportunity to experience Kenna’s most extensive collection to date, showcased in a city that, like Japan, seamlessly blends modernity with tradition. An invitation to pause and reflect on their own relationship with the landscapes around them.

In an era dominated by fast-paced digital consumption, Kenna’s work stands as an antidote to visual excess, encouraging viewers to pause and reflect. His images not only capture nature’s quiet beauty but also serve as reminders of its fragility in the face of climate change and urbanization.
