Bashō's 17th-century journey through the northern provinces, chronicled in "The Narrow Road to the Deep North" ("Oku no Hosomichi"), has long enchanted with its mystique. Ogawa embarked on a similar exploration of the Tōhoku region, opting for trains and ferries rather than traveling on foot.
