As part of our exhibition ‘City Poetry 城市詩意’ by Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze we are honoured to host an introductory calligraphy workshop with Master Cathy Ho. Don’t miss the chance to try the ancient artform.

This workshop will introduce:

1. The history and the development of Chinese calligraphy 

2. The tools and materials that are essential to this beautiful art.

3. The way to use a brush

4. Demonstration by Ho Lo C

Biography:

Cathy Ho is a Chinese calligrapher whose family came from Hangzhou, Zhejiang, and she was born in Chengdu, Sichuen. She studied Chinese calligraphy under the late Master calligrapher Lin Chien Shi who was also reputed in seal making and painting. Cathy has also been teaching Tai Chi for the past twenty years. 

In England, she was one of the editors in ‘SIYU Chinese Times’ in Manchester and the founder of “Brushstrokes” magazine, which has won her the Best Achievement Award in Liverpool City Council. She has organized a Chinese Calligraphy competition in England and the “Arts in the Garden” in Liverpool. She has had calligraphy exhibitions in many cities in Britain, Hong Kong and Vancouver. Besides all that, she also conducts workshops and demonstrations in galleries, museums, schools and colleges. In 2007, she was commissioned to write “The Chinese Calligraphy Bible”. 

Since her return to Hong Kong two summers ago, She has had several exhibitions at Central Library, True Light Middle School and Cawah Arts Gallery where she takes Chinese calligraphy classes. She is a member of the Hong Kong Calligraphers Association

何一明簡介

何一明, 別字思瑾,淅江杭州人,生於四川成都。 是藝壇才子林千石的書法學生;羅淑慧和楊澄甫學生之子李大任的太極門下。移居英國後,除了教授書法及太極外,亦被邀在當地博物館、畫廊、孔子學院和學校等示範和教學。參與英多次的書法展覽,包括利物浦的雙年藝術節;以至溫哥華「書藝友聲」書法展。曾任曼徹斯特「絲語雜誌」的編輯部,主辦全英書法比賽及利物浦的「公園裡的藝術」;也出版「聚言集」,獲利物浦市政局選為最優秀成就獎。
她被邀書寫的” The Chinese Calligraphy Bible” ,現巳行銷世界各地。

回港後,何老師加入了香港書法家協會,並參與其主辦的亞洲七地書法展,真光中學個展,及過去兩年來在加華藝廊舉行的新春個展。
