The Hariban Award is an international photography award that celebrates traditional photographic techniques and promotes the art of collotype printing. The award was established in 2009 by the Benrido Collotype Atelier, a traditional printing studio based in Kyoto, Japan.

The award, this year in its 10th year, is open to photographers from all over the world, and the winner is selected by a panel of judges that includes experts in the field of photography and printmaking. This year Sarah Greene from Blue Lotus Gallery is selected as one of the judges. The winner of the award is invited to travel to Kyoto to work with the skilled artisans at the Benrido Collotype Atelier to create a limited edition portfolio of their work using the collotype printing process. The artist’s work will be exhibited the following year under the umbrella of Kyotography.

The collotype process is a labor-intensive printing method that involves creating a master plate from a photographic negative and then using that plate to make individual prints. The resulting prints have a unique texture and tonality that is difficult to achieve with other printing methods.

The Hariban Award is a prestigious honor in the world of photography and has helped to raise awareness of the collotype printing technique and its rich history while giving enormous credibility and exposure to the award winning artist.

The theme is free, the call is open to any professional and amateur photographers & artist from anywhere in the world. Submission fee is US$50 for upto 12 black and white images.
