'The City Poetry of Hong Kong'

As an extension of the 'City Poetry' artworks selected for the Ferragamo 'Bing Sutt' truck, Blue Lotus Gallery is pleased to showcase a series of unique views on Hong Kong by the French artist Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze. The photographs have been shot over the last 10 years since the artist moved to the city he now calls home.

‘City Poetry’ is Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze’s most personal project to date, a photographic exercise that shows the artist further deepening his roots in Hong Kong and Cantonese culture. Jacquet-Lagrèze set himself the task of documenting visually striking street signs and took them home where his wife would help to translate, slowly enabling him to decipher the characters that adorn this city’s streets. As his archive grew so did his knowledge, forming sentences with photographs of individual characters results in poems that are both visual and linguistic.

A friendly 'Meet the Artist' session where people can have books, prints and tiles signed by him in person will be held on March 13, 2021.

作為 Ferragamo「Bing Sutt」貨車精選的「City Poetry」藝術品之延伸，Blue Lotus Gallery 很榮幸可以展出法國藝術家 Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze 過去十年在香港所創作的作品，呈現他對這個家獨特的觀賞角度。

《城市詩意》是Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze 最新的個人企劃，今輯攝影系列印證了這位法籍攝影師對於香港及其語言文化的熱愛再度昇華。Jacquet-Lagrèze以攝影紀錄街上各種充滿視覺 魅力的招牌，帶回家中讓太太協助翻譯，漸漸地，他學會解讀滿佈大街小巷的文字密碼。他儲下了大批這樣的文字照片，中文知識亦隨之加深。他更運用這些文字照片拼砌成有「詩意」的句子，巧妙地集合「視覺」與「語文」於一身。

相關展覽活動包括3月13日舉行的藝術家見面會，藝術家會親自為訪客在其書冊、印刷品及瓷磚上簽名。

Dans le prolongement des œuvres d'art 'City Poetry' sélectionnées pour le camion Ferragamo 'Bing Sutt', la Blue Lotus Gallery a le plaisir de présenter une série de vues uniques sur Hong Kong de l'artiste français Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze. Les photographies ont été prises au cours des 10 dernières années depuis que l'artiste a déménagé dans la ville qu'il appelle maintenant chez lui.

‘City Poetry’ est à ce jour le projet le plus personnel de Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze, un exercice photographique qui montre l’artiste approfondissant ses racines dans la culture Hong kongaise et cantonaise. Jacquet-Lagrèze s’est fixé la tâche de documenter des plaques de rue visuellement frappantes et de les ramener chez lui, où sa femme l’aide à les traduire, lui permettant de déchiffrer les signes qui ornent les rues de cette ville. À mesure que ses archives grandissaient, ses connaissances s’approfondissaient, formant des phrases avec des photographies de signes individuels, donnant naissance à des poèmes qui sont à la fois visuels et linguistiques.

Une session ‘Rencontre avec l'artiste’' où les gens pourront faire signer des livres, des gravures et des carreaux signés par lui en personne se tiendra le 13 Mars 2021.

In addition to City Poetry prints, the gallery will be displaying works from Romain’s other iconic series such as The Blue Moment, Concrete Stories and Wild Concrete.

This event is also part of Central West Hong Kong (CWHK), in collaboration with contemporary art galleries across Central Western district, is a synergic quarterly event that showcases a plethora of both local and international artistic talents. With a tailored schedule of gallery programs and special events, such as artist talks, performance, engaging activities, audiences can hop from gallery to another and discover the diverse contemporary art scene. Central West Hong Kong, at the core, is a platform that facilitates collective flourishing between galleries, institutions, art lovers, artists, and curators; this self-initiative event brings momentous change to the Hong Kong art scene in the long term.
