You Li is one of the most representative independent female photographers in contemporary China. She currently lives and works in Shenyang and Beijing. Her early works focused on borders and regional transformations within grand narratives, while her later practice turns toward a more intimate exploration of personal history on a micro level.
Her visual style is deeply inspired by French Impressionist painting and classical music, revealing an aesthetic of restraint, tranquility, and poetic sensibility.
