Fan Ho, Il Maestro della Fotografia di Hong Kong

Eleven September marked the opening of Fan Ho’s first large-scale museum exhibition in Europe, bringing around 100 works by Hong Kong’s legendary master of photography to Palazzo Barolo in Turin. The show has already attracted an unprecedented number of visitors, reflecting both Fan Ho’s growing international recognition and the public’s fascination with his poetic vision of 1950s and 1960s Hong Kong.
Its arrival in Turin feels especially meaningful. As curator Elisa Maupas notes, “Turin has a special relationship with photography.” The city has long held an important place in photographic history: it was where some of the first photographs in Italy were taken and home to the country’s earliest active camera clubs.
Through dramatic contrasts of light and shadow, precise composition and deeply human street scenes, Fan Ho transformed everyday life into timeless images. This landmark exhibition not only introduces his work to a wider European audience, but also confirms his place among the great masters of 20th-century photography.
