No Landscape ever stays the same, although in memories, and photographs, we are able to keep things just the way they are.
The 2016 revised reprint edition of Nathan Road presents some of the changes along the thorughfare since 2007, when this books was first published, and since 2005, when all the images were taken.
Nathan Road is the main thoroughfare in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Running in a south-north direction from Tsim Sha Tsui to Mong Kok district, Nathan Road is lined with landmark buildings such as Peninsula Hotel, Chungking Mansions, Kowloon Park, Islamic Centre, and Tung Ying Building, connecting the local districts.
Known to local visitors and tourists as a must-go local destination, its amalgamation of shops, restaurants, advertising billboards, shop signage, transportation exchanges points, and its continuous flow of traffic and people, forms an energetic street scene. Nathan Road, with all its hustle and bustle, stages an on-going changing scene — if one revisits occasionally one will find a new shop, a new advertising billboard or even a new building has replaced the present.
In 2005, Lo spent hours waiting for the lowest traffic moments, capturing every building block and shop front on Nathan Road, and produced this photographic book which he later entered for the Epson Color Imaging Competition, winning top prize in the Photograph Category (Hong Kong judging panel), and an Honorable Mention from the judging panel in Japan.
Nathan Road adopts a semi-detached photographic approach and presents the vista on both sides of Nathan Road in an accordion format.
